Flood evacuee count eases in Kedah

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah continues to decline, with 852 evacuees remaining in three affected districts.

A 4pm update from the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the evacuees from 251 families were housed in eight temporary flood relief centres (PPS).

This is a reduction from 1,278 evacuees from 403 families in 11 PPS at 8am.

In Kota Setar, the number of evacuees has slightly decreased to 466 from 142 families in five PPS, from 489 earlier.

However, the Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir website indicated that two rivers in Kota Setar — Sungai Anak Bukit at Jambatan TAR and at Taman Aman — have breached danger levels.

Pendang saw a drop to 331 evacuees from 88 families in two PPS, from 354 earlier.

In Pokok Sena, all five evacuees from two families housed in one PPS have been allowed to return home.

In Baling, the number has decreased to 55 evacuees from 21 families in one PPS, down from 470 earlier, after three PPS were closed at 3pm.
