Unity government stands firm against opposition threats, says Zahid

KLUANG: The unity government will remain steadfast even if the opposition, particularly Perikatan Nasional (PN), tables a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the October parliamentary session.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed confidence that the unity government foundation's is strong and has the support of more than two-thirds of the parliamentary seats.

Zahid, who is Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the unity government has the support of 153 members of parliament, which is more than two-thirds.

However, he believes that PN will seek new approaches to undermine the government.

"PN's members of parliament are expected to devise new strategies to destabilise the government,

"However, the solidarity in the unity government is solid and will not be shaken by any attempts from the opposition," Zahid told a press conference after officiating at the Affordable Housing Realisation programme here today.

Recently, Anwar challenged the opposition to table a motion of no confidence against him following calls for his resignation.

Anwar stressed the importance of adhering to the democratic process and told the opposition to avoid relying on sentiments or populist rhetoric to oust him from office.
