KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a motorcyclist running a red light and colliding with another motorcyclist who was crossing a traffic light intersection has gone viral on social media.
The dashcam video posted on X platform by user @update11111 shows the motorcyclist speeding, disregarding the red traffic light signalling him to stop.
Going at high speed, the motorcyclist shows no intention of slowing down.
Within moments, the speeding motorcyclist crashes into another motorcyclist making a turn from the opposite direction.
Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohd Nasir said both motorcyclists sustained minor injuries and received treatment from the Selayang Hospital.
He said the police received the accident report at 3pm yesterday.
He said a 52-year-old man riding the first motorcycle was heading towards Selayang from Greenwood.
Upon arriving at the traffic light, the rider did not stop and collided with the second motorcycle ridden by a 19-year-old man who was making a right turn from the opposite direction.
"The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement
The accident in Gombak sparked widespread outrage on social media about the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of obeying traffic laws.
Social media user @shahimi_senawi said:" There needs to be stricter laws against violating red lights, especially motorcyclists. Malaysia's roads are becoming lawless nowadays. It's so frustrating."
Another Facebook user @mirulizwan96 said it was unfair when some road users disobeyed traffic regulations as it endangers everyone else.
"The innocent motorcyclist who got hit obeyed the traffic law. Unfortunately, the motorcycle that ran the red light was going very fast. It might have been in his blind spot, so he didn't see it speeding towards him."
