Kedah Red Crescent hands out food baskets to flood victims

PENDANG: The Kedah Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) today distributed food baskets to nearly 3,000 families affected by floods across the state.

The relief initiative, supported by the MRCS headquarters, spanned five districts — Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Pendang and Bandar Baharu.

Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim, who is MRCS chairperson, said the aid was made possible through contributions from corporate entities including Nestle, Hurix's, Beras Jati, Lotus and Ninso.

"The distribution was carried out in collaboration with volunteers from the Darul Aman Teaching Institute, Kedah Regional Development Authority College, the Kota Setar Senior Citizens Association and the Kedah Youth Council.

"We have also deployed 81 volunteers to assist in preventing waterborne diseases, offering psychosocial support to flood victims and cleaning homes in severely affected areas," she said in a statement today.

The aid handover ceremony took place at SMK Pendang and was attended by corporate representatives, district officers, police and relevant government agencies.
