Flood victims in Kedah surpass 8,600

ALOR STAR: The number of flood victims in Kedah has climbed to 8,609, with 2,797 families seeking refuge at temporary flood relief centres as of 8.30am today.

This is up from 8,066 victims in 41 relief centres as of 8pm yesterday.

According to the Social Welfare Department Disaster Information application, Kota Setar remains the worst-hit district, with 5,099 people from 1,698 families in 18 relief centres.

Yesterday, there were 4,291 flood victims in the district.

Similarly, there was an increase in the number of flood victims in Kubang Pasu (1,349 people from 371 families) and Pokok Sena (796 people from 245 families).

In Pendang, there are now 1,483 victims across 10 relief centres compared to the 1,487 victims yesterday, while in Bandar Baharu, the number of victims (147 people from 34 families) is unchanged.

Meanwhile, water levels in Sungai Kedah, Sungai Anak Bukit in Kota Setar, and Sungai Bata in Kubang Pasu have exceeded the danger level.
