Melaka siblings die after bike collides with roadside bin

MELAKA: A teenage boy and his five-year-old sister died while receiving treatment at the hospital after their motorcycle collided with a roro bin on Lebuh Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh yesterday.

The incident occurred at 6.15pm as they were on their way to visit their late father's grave in Bertam Hulu.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said that the victims, Muhammad Amirul Hazlin, 18, and his younger sister, Nur Afiqah Sofea Hazlin, died from their injuries while being treated in the red zone of Melaka Hospital.

At the time of the incident, Muhammad Amirul was riding a Demak DV110 motorcycle with his sister as a passenger, traveling from Ayer Keroh toward Sungai Udang.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that upon reaching the accident site, the rider apparently did not notice a roro container on the roadside and collided with it," Patit said in a statement.

As a result of the collision, both the rider and the passenger sustained severe injuries and were transported to Melaka Hospital for treatment.

Both victims were pronounced dead later that night, with the rider and passenger declared deceased at 7.40pm and 12.30am, respectively.

Further investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, including efforts to identify the roro container's owner and witnesses to the incident.
