KULIM: Four people escaped unhurt after an ambulance collided with a Proton Persona at an intersection near Kulim Hospital last night.
The impact of the collision caused the ambulance to overturn. It was not carrying any patients at the time.
District police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan said the accident occurred at 8.20pm as the ambulance was travelling to Kulim Hospital from a private hospital in Penang.
"Upon arriving at the intersection, the ambulance, which had its siren and beacon on, turned right when the light was red.
"Suddenly, a Proton Persona coming from the opposite direction rammed into the side of the ambulance, causing it to overturn," he said when contacted.
Neither the drivers nor the passengers of both vehicles were injured.
The case is being investigated under Rule 17 of the Road Traffic Rules, which pertains to the driver's position and its impact on vehicle control and visibility.
The ambulance driver's statement has been recorded.
Zulkifli added that they are also seeking other witnesses to the accident.
