MANTIN: Over 100 houses in Mantin were severely damaged by a thunderstorm yesterday evening, with roofs blown off and some structures suffering significant harm.
Uprooted trees in several areas caused additional damage to homes.
The most affected areas include Taman Sri Damar, Taman Desa Mantin, Kampung Baru Mantin, Taman Andalas, and Pekan Mantin.
Negri Sembilan Local Government Development, Housing & Transport Committee chairman and Nilai state assemblyman, J Arul Kumar, said Taman Desa Mantin was hit the hardest, with over 50 houses reporting damage.
"Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though there was an incident where a car was crushed by a fallen tree," he said.
He has directed repair work on affected homes to begin immediately, with efforts starting this morning.
"Fallen trees are being cleared by the Fire and Rescue Department, Seremban City Council (MBS), and the Quick Response Team," he said after visiting affected homes in the area.
Arul Kumar added that five contractors had been appointed to repair damaged roofs, with funding provided by his office and Seremban Member of Parliament, Anthony Loke.
"I've requested that roof repairs be completed by today due to the ongoing rainy weather; we can't afford to delay," he said.
He said that this storm caused the worst damage the area had seen in 15 years.
