Telegram says will disclose users' phone number if requested by authorities

KUALA LUMPUR: The operator of popular messaging app Telegram will disclose its users' Internet details, including phone numbers, if requested by the authorities.

According to the latest update in the app's privacy policy, Telegram said if it receives a legitimate order from the authorities related to criminal cases, it will reveal the users' details as requested.

This includes disclosing the user's Internet protocol (IP) address and phone number.

At the same time, Telegram emphasises that it will always cooperate with authorities to combat criminal and dangerous activities on the social media platform.

However, it is uncertain whether all the new policies will be applied worldwide or be specific to certain countries.

The latest update was uploaded on the app's official website, but no official statement has been released by Telegram.
