KUANTAN: The Pahang Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) will step in to arrange a meeting between the police and the family of a 25-year-old man who took his own life at the Pekan police headquarters lock-up on May 4.
Its director Johari Alwi said he had instructed Jakoa staff to visit Norazman Me's family at the Runchang Orang Asli settlement in Pekan to seek their consent for the department to offer assistance.
"If the family agrees (to it), Jakoa will act as an intermediary to arrange a meeting with the police's top management in Pahang.
"We will set up a meeting between the police and the family... if necessary, we will arrange transport to bring the family members from the settlement.
"Since the police are ready to explain what happened to Norazman, the family should hear from them (the police).
"The family can obtain a clear picture regarding the whole incident and it might help them (Norazman's family) clear all their doubts," he said when contacted today.
Yesterday, Norazman's family called for an explanation from the police after the father-of-one allegedly committed suicide in his cell.
The family claimed that police have yet to provide any update surrounding his death.
Today, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said autopsy results showed that there were no criminal elements involved and the case has been classified as sudden death.
He said the police had nothing to hide over Norazman's death in custody and assured his family that they were prepared to meet them.
