EC targets 60 per cent voter turnout for Mahkota by-election [WATCH]

KLUANG: The Election Commission is targeting a 60 per cent voter turnout for the Mahkota state seat by-election, its chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said.

This target, he said, represents a three per cent increase from the 57 per cent voter turnout recorded during the state election in 2022.

He added that the target reflects an improvement in voter participation compared to the previous state polls.

"We are targeting a 60 percent turnout, hoping that more voters will comeout and exercise their civic duties," he told reporters at the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim polling centre here today.

Ramlan also said the results of the by-election are expected to be tallied by 9pm, as all polling centres are located nearby.

He encouraged voters to cast their ballots early, as the Meteorological Department has forecasted rain in the afternoon.

The by-election is seeing a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Mohamad Haizan Jaafar of Perikatan Nasional.
