KLUANG: Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi personally drove elderly voters to the polling centre at SMK Seri Perdana here in his Proton X50 today.
Zuriah Saat, 60, and her husband, Abdul Aziz Osman, 62, from Taman Suria, did not expect to be personally chauffeured by the menteri besar at their home around 8am to go and vote in the Mahkota by-election.
Zuriah said it was a sweet gesture for her and her husband.
"I never imagined that the menteri besar would come to my house early in the morning to bring my husband and me to the polling centre.
"I've voted eight times before, but due to my poor health, I now have to use a wheelchair to get around," she said.
The Mahkota by-election involves 66,318 voters, comprising 61,397 regular voters, 4,410 military personnel and their spouses, 401 police personnel and 10 voters abroad.
The by-election was called following the passing of its incumbent representative, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
In the 2022 state election, the late Sharifah, representing BN, won the seat in a four-way contest with a 5,166 majority.
