Kluang WhatsApp group encourages members to proudly show they voted

KLUANG: In a creative move to boost voter engagement, a Kluang-based community group has launched its Fingers Up! campaign to encourage its members to display their inked fingers, indicating that they had cast their ballot in the Mahkota-by election here today.

The Info Banjir & Info Kluang WhatsApp's group administrators rallied its almost-900 members this morning, urging them to upload photos of their fingers stained with indelible ink.

In a posting, the administrators wrote: "Fingers Up! It's an iconic symbol of democratic participation in Mahkota."

The initiative quickly gained traction, with members enthusiastically flooding the group chat with snapshots of their digits.

The by-election is a straight between Barisan Nasional's Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, or Coach Haizan.

Polling will continue until 6pm when all polling centres will simultaneously close. The vote tallying will take place at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail here.

Unofficial results may be expected by 9pm.
