KLUANG: Barisan Nasional has accused Perikatan Nasional of attempting to sow discord within Umno through provocative banners during the Mahkota by-election today.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said BN and Pakatan Harapan's state by-election machinery teams discovered banners suggesting that BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah would replace Datuk Jais Sarday as Kluang Umno division chief if he wins.
The banners, which show a picture of Syed Hussien, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and a message congratulating Syed Hussien as the next division chief, is an effort to create friction in Umno, Ahmad said today.
Ahmad, who is BN's deputy election director for the Mahkota by-election, said Umno party elections will not be held until the next general election.
"They have run out of ideas. I urge voters not to be misled by this provocation," he said, adding that BN is considering lodging a police report.
The Mahkota by-election is a straight fight between BN's Syed Hussien and PN's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, or Coach Haizan.
