Mohamad Hasan to deliver Malaysian statement at UN General Assembly

NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is set to deliver the country's national statement at 2pm tomorrow at the High-Level General Debate of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) here.

Mohamad is expected to address key global issues, including the humanitarian crises in Palestine and Myanmar, as well as Malaysia's role in advancing multilateralism and promoting peace and stability in the region.

The session will feature the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines.

This year's theme for the General Debate is "Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations".

Since his arrival in New York, Mohamad has been actively engaging in bilateral meetings with global leaders, including a notable session with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

This is Mohamad's first participation in UNGA since his appointment as foreign minister in December 2023.

The High-Level General Debate, taking place from Sept 24 to 30, sees world leaders presenting their national positions on various global issues during the annual gathering.– BERNAMA
