Teeth, bones and coins found in crocodile in search for missing 6-year-old

TATAU: Two crocodiles weighing 1.2 and 1.3 tonnes were captured by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), as part of a search operation to find six-year-old Cecelia Julan Intik, who was attacked by the reptile in Sungai Tatau on Sept 25.

The victim was said to be bathing with family members in the river in the 7pm incident when she was pulled underwater by a crocodile.

The incident was witnessed by her sister and grandfather, who could not do anything to save the girl but immediately alerted the authorities.

A search and rescue operation involving multiple agencies was immediately launched and traps were set up to capture the crocodile.

"On Friday, two crocodiles were trapped, the first at Hulu Sungai Sap at about 9.30am weighing 1.2 tonnes and the second animal was caught at 1.20pm weighing 1.3 tonnes, both on the same day.

"A dissection performed on the first reptile led to the discovery of teeth, bones and coins inside the crocodile's stomach," said Tatau district police chief deputy Superintendent Jame Reis.

He said the captured beast was brought back to the Jetty Pasar Lama Tatau and surrendered to SFC for further action.

It is learnt that the victim's family members were also present during the dissection of the crocodile.

"The second crocodile weighing 1.3 tonnes was caught at Hilir Sungai Tatau near Rumah Panjang Gisa and was towed to the same jetty for a dissection," he said.

The findings from the second dissection have yet to be released to the public.
