Search ongoing for Bintulu child attacked by crocodile

KUCHING : A six-year-old girl was attacked by a crocodile at the jetty in Kampung Seberang Pasar Lama, Tatau, in Bintulu, today.

In the 6.30pm incident, the victim, Cicilia Julan Intik, was bathing in the river with her other family members, when the crocodile suddently bit and dragged her deeper into the river.

The incident occurred in front of Cicilia's grandfather, who was also bathing in the pier with other people.

When contacted, a Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a distress call regarding the incident at 7.21pm.

A team of six firemen from Tatau rushed to the scene.

"The incident site is located about 5km from the fire and rescue station and upon arriving at the scene at 7.30pm, the firemen confirmed the attack with the victim's grandfather.

"A search for the girl was immediately launched but so far efforts have not led to any result."

The spokesman said police and family members joined in the search with still no sign of Cicilia as of 10pm.
