No new fatwa needed for GISB unless new evidence emerges, says Kelantan Mufti

KOTA BARU: The fatwa on the deviant teachings practiced by the Al-Arqam movement in the past is still relevant, if it is proven that similar issues had occurred within Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB).

Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said there was no need to establish a new fatwa unless new elements were identified by the authorities.

"We have issued a fatwa previously concerning Al-Arqam, and it remains relevant since GISB is related to that movement.

"If the fatwa has been made, a new fatwa cannot be issued unless new elements are found with assistance from the police or other parties," he said.

He made these remarks after the ceremony to bestow state honours in conjunction with the 55th birthday celebration of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Balai Besar today.

Mohamad Shukri also said that any decision made after discussions at the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) cannot be announced until the Council of Rulers has given its consent.

"We merely engage in discussions, and any decisions from these discussions cannot be disclosed unless approved by the Council of Rulers, so we await their decision," he said.
