SERIAN: A woman's journey home with her two children turned tragic when her son was killed after their car skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine.
District police chief deputy superintendent Neil Beginda said the incident was reported around 10.30am at Kilometre 95 of Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman, Serian, according to Buletin Utama.
"Preliminary investigations found that the victims were on their way home in Kuching from their village in Betong.
"Upon reaching the scene, the victim lost control of the car and it veered to the left, hit a road barrier, and fell into a ravine.
"The vehicle sustained damage to both the front and rear," he said in a statement.
As a result, the 46-year-old woman suffered a fracture to her left arm, while her eight-year-old son, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Serian Hospital.
He said the woman's 13-year-old daughter, who was seated in the front passenger seat, did not suffer any injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
