KUALA KRAI: A woman was killed while two others suffered injuries when their car rammed into a dead cow before landing in a drain here yesterday.
The injured were the woman's 61-year-old husband, who was the car driver, and their 19-year-old daughter.
Kuala Krai police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the 55-year-old woman died on the spot in the incident due to serious body and head injuries.
He said the three were travelling from Ketereh to Gombak when the incident occurred about 6.30am.
"Initial investigation showed that the car driver failed to avoid a dead cow in the middle of the road, causing the car to skid into the opposite lane before it landed in a drain.
"Firemen helped to pull out the woman who was pinned under the wrecked car but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband and daughter were also injured in the crash," he said in a statement.
He added that the father and daughter received treatment at Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital. He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"Police have identified eight accident-prone areas in Kuala Krai and have placed signboards to warn motorists not to speed while passing the areas," he added.
