SITIAWAN: Four people were rescued by firemen after they were trapped under the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Bridge here while fishing, early today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 1.31am.
"Upon arrival, the rescue team found the water level of Sungai Manjung to be knee-deep and rapidly rising.
"The operation leader assessed the situation and instructed the team to launch a boat from a nearby jetty to rescue the victims, who comprised of two adult males and two adult females," he said.
He said after being rescued, all victims were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
"Seven firemen from Sitiawan were involved in the operation, which concluded at 3.11am," he said.
