Firemen rescue family of four in shophouse fire

KAJANG: The quick actions of the Fire and Rescue Department in opening the door of a burning shophouse on Jalan Sungai Chua, Kampung Sungai Chua, saved a family of four who were trapped inside this morning

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said the department received a call at 3.28am.

Firefighters from the Kajang Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Bangi, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Stations, and the Bangi Volunteer Fire Brigade, were dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival, it was found that a two-story shop house was 75 per cent engulfed in flames, both upstairs and downstairs.

"Three adjacent shop units were also burned, and two men and two women, aged between 27 and 58, were trapped on the lower floor," he said in a statement today.

The firefighters then used bolt cutters to open the door and successfully rescued the victims.

"The survivors, consisting of a husband, wife, and their children, were living in a bicycle shop owned by the woman's brother.

"The victims were then taken to the hospital by ambulance after experiencing breathing difficulties," he added.
