KUALA LUMPUR: Water supply for 118,000 consumers in Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) and Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) is on track to be normalised by 10pm tonight.
Penang Water Supply Corporation chief executive officer, Ir K. Pathmanathan, said as of 1pm today, water works to connect and commission a new 180 metre-long section of a pipeline measuring 1.2 metre in diametre, near the Politeknik Permatang Pauh campus, has reached the 90 per cent completion stage.
He said final welding works are being carried out.
"Early this morning, the corporation encountered a minor technical issue involving a valve at Jalan Pengkalan Tambang near the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant.
"This issue is affecting some consumers at Taman Seri Murni (Sungai Dua) and Jalan Pengkalan Machang. However, it will not affect the 10pm deadline for normalisation of water supply services.
"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we are on schedule. The corporation will start normalising water supply services for all the affected water consumers in SPT and SPS from 10pm today," he said in a statement.
Earlier this week, the corporation said there would be a 24-hour water supply disruption in SPT and SPS. It is replacing a section of a major pipeline in Permatang Pauh that had been damaged by the contractor of another utility company.
It said a new 180m pipeline section will be connected and commissioned near the Politeknik Seberang Perai campus in Permatang Pauh, with a projected cost of RM2 million.
