KUANTAN: The construction of the RM115-millon treated water supply pipe from Kemaman, Terengganu, to the Gebeng industrial area here will be completed next month.
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, in a statement, said the 29km treated water supply project, led by the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), was 99.7 per cent complete, and undergoing testing and commissioning.
"The Pahang ECER Implementation and Coordination Committee meeting today was informed that packages one and two of the Kemaman-Gebeng water distribution pipe project are nearing completion. The project, which will be fully completed next month, will ensure stable treated water supply to meet the commercial and domestic demands in Gebeng, especially the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) next year.
"The pipe will address water supply disruption in the Gebeng industrial area and for residents living in the vicinity. The pipeline will pave the way for new investment projects, including MCKIP 3 that will be completed in July next year, to be carried out as scheduled." Wan Rosdy said the state government was committed to carrying out water supply projects across Pahang to ensure consumers had access to proper treated water supplies.
It was reported that the Kemaman-Gebeng water distribution pipe involved laying a 24km pipe in Pahang and a 5km pipe in Terengganu. It will supply more than 90 million litres of water a day.
