SHAH ALAM: The state government has formed a special task force to rehabilitate children from GISB Holdings (GISB) in Selangor.
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Islamic Affairs and Innovation Development Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, announced the task force's creation following the State Government Meeting (MMKN) on Oct 2, which he chaired alongside Chairman of the Standing Committee on Women's Development and Community Welfare Anfaal Saari.
"The state government is deeply concerned about the welfare of children and vulnerable groups," he said.
The task force will evaluate rehabilitation programs for children recently found in GISB charity homes. Initial members will include representatives from the police, the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS), the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
The team will also include child psychology and education experts, as well as representatives from Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor and Yayasan Selgate.
Dr Fahmi noted that the task force will address not only issues of faith but also welfare, health, and the mental and physical development of the children.
"This initiative aims to ensure these children can be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, even after the official six-month rehabilitation period," he said.
The first meeting of the special task force is scheduled for Oct 11.
During Op Global on September 11, authorities rescued 402 children and teenagers aged one to 17 from 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
The victims included 201 boys and 201 girls suspected of exploitation, neglect, and abuse.
