Sultan Selangor decrees committee formation to rehabilitate children rescued from GISB homes

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has decreed the setting up of a committee to identify the best ways to rehabilitate over 600 children rescued from welfare homes linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).

The Royal Selangor Office, in a post on its Facebook page today, said the Sultan of Selangor issued the decree after His Majesty received a courtesy call from the State Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah at Bukit Kayangan Istana in Shah Alam.

"During the meeting, His Royal Highness ordered the formation of a committee to produce a detailed working paper to identify the best methods to rehabilitate over 600 GISB children (children rescued from welfare homes linked to the entity).

"His Majesty emphasised the urgency of this matter, stating that it should not be delayed as it involves the future of the affected children

.

"The committee will report directly to the Sultan of Selangor and will be responsible for rehabilitating these children and reintegrating them into society within a specified timeframe," the posting said.

It was reported yesterday that the Cabinet was informed that 662 children rescued from care homes linked to GISB have been issued court orders placing them under the protection of the authorities.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the update was provided by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri during the Cabinet meeting.
