Preliminary report on GISB children's rehabilitation assessment expected by mid-month

KUALA LUMPUR: The preliminary report of the periodic assessment conducted on children rescued from welfare homes linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB) Holdings Sdn Bhd, currently undergoing rehabilitation with a Selangor state government task force, is expected to be ready by the middle of this month.

Selangor Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee Chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the report would help the task force ensure that the existing syllabus used in the rehabilitation programme can be adapted to meet the level of recovery needed by the children, based on their age.

The Selangor State Government will also liaise with its counterpart in Penang, as well as the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP), to collaborate on the management of the GISB children from Selangor who are housed in shelters there.

"The state government welcomes cooperation and assistance from various parties, both in terms of expertise and financial support, to help rehabilitate these children.

"I am confident the children have the potential to become assets for the state," he said in a statement today.

He added that he was satisfied with the outcome of the discussion conducted by the task force, which was held from Oct 17 until Oct 18.

It was reported that 424 children, who were rescued from the welfare homes linked to GISB in Selangor, were undergoing the rehabilitation programme.

Selangor Women's Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari said the children would be assessed periodically to determine their current development and situation.

She added if there were any of the children categorised as chronic or trauma, they would be separated to follow other rehabilitation programmes.
