Sepang residents clash with local government on road obstructions

SEPANG: Residents of Taman Jenderam Budiman, Jenderam Hilir, Dengkil have been instructed to clear road obstructions in their housing area immediately.

District officer Khairi Azali Ibrahim said his office had received complaints and discovered obstructions on the 1.25-metre-wide road reserve, which hinder residents' access to the main road.

"A directive was issued by the Sepang District and Land Office on June 26, giving the parties involved 30 days to clear the area," he said when contacted.

He added that the reminder notice, signed by the Assistant Land Administrator of the Technical and Enforcement Unit, Sepang District, Khairulsallehin Abu Shah, was delivered to the head of the residents' association.

Khairi stated that his office has since instructed and dispatched officers to review the problem to prevent it from escalating and affecting more parties.

"The reminder notice is clear, and the residents must comply with the instructions. Failure to do so may result in action being taken under the National Land Code (Act 828)," he warned.

Meanwhile, Taman Jenderam Budiman Residents' Association chairman Zahrul Nizam Shah Zainal Abidin said that residents are prepared to remove the obstructions if the landowner obtains Planning Permission from the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang).

He claimed that at a meeting held on Sept 24, which included MPSepang representatives, the landowner was instructed to apply for planning permission for further development work.

"We are ready to remove the obstructions, but the regulations must first be adhered to, including obtaining the planning permission letter from MPSepang.

"Previously, the landowner did not have planning permission... once the planning permission is obtained, we will remove the obstruction. We are waiting for the planning permission letter," he said.

He added that the landowner must also adhere to specified guidelines to ensure that the development does not negatively impact the housing area, including building drainage to prevent flooding and directing sewage to the proper facilities.

It was previously reported that buyers and landowners near Taman Jenderam Budiman were unable to build their homes due to blocked access routes.

The buyers and landowners had claimed that the residents have erected barriers on the road reserve by placing cement-filled drums, digging trenches, and constructing fences.

Landowner Ahmad Man, 68, the land purchased near Taman Jenderam Budiman received approval from authorities to change its status to a building site in 2021.
