Croc shock: Residents stunned to see crocodiles on road

KUANTAN: It was not a dull day for residents of Taman Seri Damai and Taman Inderapura Jaya here after two juvenile crocodiles turned up in their neighbourhoods.

The crocodiles were believed to have gotten lost before finding their way on the neighbourhoods' streets.

Kuantan Civil Defence Department director Zahidi Zainudin said they were alerted to the presence of the first crocodile in Taman Inderapura Jaya at 1.43am.

Five personnel were dispatched to catch and relocate the two-metre-long crocodile.

After catching the first crocodile, they were alerted to another in Taman Seri Damai.

There, they caught a three-metre-long crocodile.

Both saltwater crocodiles have been handed over to the Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department.

"We do not rule out the possibility that the two crocodiles came from Sungai Belat and ended up here after being carried by the high tide in the river."

He said in the past eight months, the department handled five cases of crocodiles in housing areas.

Zahidi advised those living near Sungai Belat to be aware of their surroundings, especially at night.
