ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in the state has surged to over 1,100 as worsening conditions continue to affect four districts this afternoon.
The state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that 1,157 evacuees from 347 families are currently seeking shelter at 15 flood relief centres up to 4pm today (Oct 8).
This marks a significant jump from the 439 evacuees across two districts reported at 8am.
Kota Setar is the hardest-hit, with 553 evacuees from 166 families now sheltered in four relief centres. In Pendang, 237 evacuees from 58 families are sheltering in a single relief centre.
Kubang Pasu also recorded an increase, with 367 evacuees from 123 families in five relief centres, up from 252 evacuees from 80 families earlier today.
Census efforts were underway to assess the number of evacuees in Baling, where five relief centres have been activated.
According to the Public Infobanjir website, eight rivers across four districts — Kota Setar, Pendang, Kubang Pasu and Padang Terap — have breached danger levels up to 5pm today (Oct 8).
