ALOR STAR: The flood situation in Kedah is improving, with the number of evacuees dropping to about 1,800.
However, Baling remains an exception, with the number of evacuees rising slightly.
The state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that up to 4pm, 1,850 evacuees from 606 families were housed at 17 centres, down from 2,257 evacuees from 726 families at 8am.
Baling had 914 evacuees from 329 families at 10 centres, compared with 904 evacuees from 314 families earlier.
The number of evacuees in Pendang dropped to 453 from 122 families at two centres, down from 503 evacuees from 137 families.
Kota Setar reported 444 evacuees from 139 households sheltering at four centres, down from 710 evacuees.
In Pokok Sena, the number of evacuees dropped to 39 from 16 families at one centres, compared with 54 evacuees from 20 families earlier.
In Kubang Pasu, all 86 evacuees from 31 families were allowed to return home at 10am.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department said water levels in two rivers — Sungai Anak Bukit at Jambatan TAR in Kota Setar and Sungai Ketil at Kuala Pegang in Baling — remained above the danger level.
