Number of flood evacuees in Kedah drops to 5,936 overnight as floods ease

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in the state has dropped overnight to about 5,900 as floodwaters began to recede this morning.

This is a decrease from 6,792 evacuees from 2,171 families, who were sheltered in 33 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) across four districts as of 11pm yesterday.

An update by the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat this morning showed that 5,936 evacuees from 1,895 families are spread across 34 PPS.

Kota Setar remains the worst-hit district, with 4,049 evacuees from 1,311 families in 19 PPS, down from 4,626 evacuees from 1,509 families late yesterday evening.

In Kubang Pasu, the number of evacuees dropped to 340 from 108 families, compared to 493 people from 144 families previously.

Similarly, Pendang is now sheltering 1,480 evacuees from 448 families, down from 1,606 evacuees from 490 families.

However, the number of evacuees in Pokok Sena remains unchanged, with 67 people from 28 families.

Meanwhile, the Public Infobanjir portal reports that Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu is the only river currently above danger levels, with water levels continuing to rise as of 8am.
