Lawyers preparing legal action against govt over rescued GISB children

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of lawyers is considering legal action against the government over alleged misconduct involving children rescued from charity homes run by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).

The lawyers involved are Nizam Bashir Abdul Kariem Bashir, Rizal Abdullah, Dorina Abdullah, Hizri Hasshan, Muhammad Shahrin Satheer, and Asmawati Mohd Shuaib.

They said, according to multiple sources, these separations have occurred outside the boundaries of legal protocol, including those outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

"Our legal team is actively preparing suitable proceedings to address these alleged violations, wherever applicable, and secure the immediate return of children who may have been unlawfully separated from their families.

"We intend to present comprehensive evidence supporting our clients' position before the Court," the lawyers said in a joint statement.

They also reminded the authorities to conduct investigations strictly in accordance with the law and established procedures.

"Any actions taken outside these parameters may result in serious legal consequences, particularly concerning the welfare and the best interests of the affected children," they said.

Earlier today (Oct 8), Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the cabinet was informed that 662 children rescued from care homes linked to GISB have been issued court orders placing them under the protection of the authorities.
