Fire destroys recycling factory in Pengkalan Chepa [WATCH]

KOTA BARU: A fire broke out at a recycling factory situated on 0.6 hectares in the Pengkalan Chepa industrial area yesterday (Oct 27).

State Fire and Rescue Department Senior Operation Commander Zukeri Shafie, however, reported that there were no casualties from the fire, which started around 5.45pm.

He added 22 firemen from two stations - Pengkalan Chepa and Pasir Puteh rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 6.02pm.

"The factory was about 80 per cent destroyed when firemen arrived.

"We faced some difficulties in putting out the fire as the factory was full of plastic containers, PVC and other recycled items," he added.

He said the department was also assisted by Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB).

"AKSB has sent us several water tanks as we faced a water shortage in putting out the fire," he added.

Efforts to put out the fire continued until midnight.

"I would like to advise the public not to come near the site as our operation has yet to be completed," he said at the scene last night.

The cause and losses in the fire are still under investigation.
