Fadillah pledges to solve Kelantan's flood woes

BACHOK: The unity government is committed to solving the flood woes faced by the people in Kelantan, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said today.

He said the government realised that Kelantan was among the worst affected states hit by the yearly monsoon season.

To show that the government was serious about tackling the issue, Fadillah said he would be visiting Kelantan soon to discuss the matter with the state government.

"The monsoon season will be coming soon and as usual, Kelantan may be among the worst hit states by the floods.

"Apart from facing the flood problem, l was informed that the state is also worried about the problem that arises from the flood mitigation project in Sungai Golok.

"I was told that the project has a problem. I will come to Kelantan again soon to discuss with the state government on how to resolve the issue. Kelantan is among the states which are being given attention by the federal government," he added.

Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, was speaking at the handing over of the RM71 million new Bachok hospital here today. Fadillah said he was informed that the state government had resolved the land acquisition issue for the project.

"The problem right now is the contractor involved in the project. This is the issue that we need to address," he added.

He said Kelantan people had received a lot of infrastructure projects from the government like the Central Spine Road (CSR).

"What we are implementing now is the approach of the prime minister through the Malaysia Madani concept.

"We want to close the gap between states and Kelantan is one of the states that receives a lot of allocations after Sabah and Sarawak. The good collaboration between the federal government and state government must be continued," he added.
