ALOR STAR: The flood situation in Kedah continues to improve, with more evacuees being allowed to return home.
One temporary flood relief centre that was activated in Baling at midnight yesterday has since been closed.
State Civil Defence Force deputy director Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said, based on the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat update, the total number of flood evacuees declined from 2,952 people this morning to 2,378 people as of 4pm today.
He said the SK Tunku Habsah flood evacuation centre in Baling which was opened at midnight yesterday to provide shelter for 33 evacuees, has been deactivated at 1pm.
He added that the remaining 2,378 evacuees from 718 families in four districts, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, and Padang Terap are sheltering at 22 temporary relief centres.
"Kota Setar district still topped the number of evacuees with 1,610 people from 484 families taking shelter in nine evacuation centres followed by Pendang district with 507 evacuees from 139 families sheltering at two relief centres.
"In Pokok Sena district, 442 evacuees from 153 families are still taking shelter at five evacuation centres while in Kubang Pasu district, three relief centres are providing shelter for 360 evacuees from 122 families," he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, in Perlis, the two remaining flood evacuation centres have been closed after the remaining 119 evacuees in Kangar and Arau were allowed to return home.
According to the Welfare Services Department's InfoBencanaJKM mobile application update as of 2pm today, all the relief centres in Perlis have been closed.
