KOTA BARU: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain today warned police officers especially those in the border states not to simply travel overseas without a valid reason or for entertainment.
Razarudin said as the head of the police force, he would not hesitate to take stern action against those found breaching the rules.
He said police personnel of all ranks must get prior approval from their respective police chiefs or deputy chiefs if they need to travel abroad for work purposes.
"That has been the force's directive since long ago. To those who fail to comply with the rules, strict action will be taken," he said.
He was asked to comment on a case where a General Operations Force personnel was injured in an attack in the Thai border town of Sungai Golok on Aug 17.
On the case, Razarudin said disciplinary action would be taken against the policeman.
"I was informed that the police Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) has already investigated the case and l also told them to speed up their probe.
"Police will not tolerate if it true that the GOF personnel had travelled overseas for personal matter. If he is found guilty, he will be slapped with disciplinary action," he added.
The GOF member, who is based in Tumpat, was believed to have used one of the illegal jetties along the Malaysia-Thai border to cross into Sungai Golok for a night out.
The victim was at a premises in the border town when he was attacked by a man at 4am, and was injured on the head.
The GOF member was sent to a hospital in Sungai Golok for initial treatment. He was later transferred to Tumpat Hospital before being warded at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.
