Panic as kindergarten classroom floods [WATCH]

HULU KELANG: A group of students at a childcare centre in Kampung Klang Gate here experienced a terrifying moment when their classroom was flooded due to heavy rain in the Klang Valley early this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said several areas in the vicinity were inundated following the overflow of a nearby river.

Firefighters from the Pandan Indah and Ampang Fire and Rescue Stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 10.12am.

"All the kindergarten students involved have been rescued by the on-duty firemen. The operation commander reported that the flooding was caused by river overflow entering residential areas.

"The incident resulted in 10 vehicles being stranded in the water, with water levels estimated at around 0.305 meters, and no casualties reported so far," he said in a statement today.

Earlier, it was reported that heavy rain in the capital since early morning had caused flooding in several areas, including around the Parliament building.

The parliamentary session in the Dewan Rakyat, scheduled to start at 10am today, was postponed to 10.30am as some members of Parliament were trapped in the flash floods.
