Attempt to smuggle in Rottweilers from Holland foiled

SEPANG: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) has foiled an attempt to smuggle two Rottweilers from Holland using fake permits.

Maqis Selangor director Mohd Sobri Md Hashim said the dogs were seized from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Cargo area after inspectors realised the import permits had been falsified.

He said the Rottweilers were brought in using permits which had been issued and used previously.

He said the case has been classified under Section 13 of the the Quarantine Act which carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or two years jail or both.

Those wishing to bring in dog breeds such as Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Doberman, Bullmastiff, Bull Terrier and Perro De Presa Canario need to obtain special permits as they were categorised as restricted dogs. BERNAMA
