KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines' partnership deal with an English Premier League club (EPL) will not impact its maintenance operations, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the partnership was part of the national carrier's marketing strategy.
"I am confident that technical management is given the highest priority because flight safety is the top priority for airlines, especially Malaysia Airlines."
He said this in response to Dr Richard Rapu (GPS-Betong), who had asked whether the partnership with an EPL club would affect its ability to address technical issues.
Loke added technical issues were faced by many airlines, not just Malaysia Airlines.
"It is a global issue, attributed to geopolitical factors and other issues, causing supply chain disruptions for components.
"Some components are not available in the near term, leading to maintenance challenges that plague many airlines, not only those in Malaysia.
"Malaysia Airlines has done everything possible to address these technical issues."
In March, Malaysia Airlines Bhd revealed a long-term partnership with Manchester United, solidifying its position as the club's official commercial airline.
