Task force to look into bullying in hospitals

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will identify and investigate hospitals with reported cases of doctors getting bullied.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said a special task force would will look into these cases, following the death of a pathologist at Lahad Datu Hospital, and will it would expand the investigation to other healthcare facilities.

He said added that the special task force began its work on Oct 10 and would will focus on determining the cause of Dr Tay Tien Yaa's death of Dr Tay Tien Yaa.

He said the task force would will investigate bullying cases in general, including those occurring at other healthcare facilities.

"This special task force will conduct an investigations into bullying cases over a period of three months.

"So, we have three more months to examine this bullying issue nationwide," he said told a press conference after officiating at the Disaster Management Conference here yesterday on Wednesday.

Also present was the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Datuk Ahmad.

Dr Dzulkefly said he recently met former Public Services Department director-general Tan Sri Borhan Dollah to assess the readiness of the special task force.

He also said that the ministry was is reviewing several other issues, including the 30-hour work shifts for doctors.

The Health Ministry, he added, was is also addressing broader other concerns, such as the supply and demand for doctors and the allocation of human resources.

"We (the ministry) need to understand the existing gaps and shortages before providing the right solutions.

"That is very important. In terms of the budget, we hope it will reflect the concerns of our healthcare workers."
