Azam: 'Big fish' trio unrelated to counter-setting syndicate

KUALA LUMPUR: The three "big fish" who are purportedly involved in the counter-setting syndicate at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport are unrelated to the case.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said checks have been made about the allegation.

"This morning, my officer informed me that the 'codenames' of these three people have nothing to do with the counter-setting syndicate.

"(Beyond that) I don't want to ask. That's the right of the intelligence department," he told reporters after opening the MACC Chief Commissioner's Round Table Conference with Commercial Banks at a hotel here today.

He was responding to a question about a report by Malaysiakini, which claimed that the masterminds behind the syndicate remain at large.

Yesterday , Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail asked Malaysiakini to reveal the alleged high-profile figures.

It was alleged that the syndicate is linked to a medical visa racket involving foreign nationals.

The key masterminds, identified as Tok Yah, a high-ranking government employee, and DK, a Johor businessman and another person were supposedly still at large.

Last month, it was reported that the MACC arrested 60 people, including the mastermind of counter-setting operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The syndicate involved Immigration Department personnel, agents, and foreign nationals who were allegedly bringing in foreign workers illegally.
