Promising weather brings hope as flood situation in Pahang improve

KUANTAN: Clear sunny skies provided respite in Pahang as the number of flood evacuees in Temerloh dropped to 1,050 today (Oct 19), down from 1,616 yesterday.

According to the Social Welfare Department's InfoBencana application, the victims from 312 families are seeking shelter at five flood relief centres.

A state Civil Defence Force spokesman said three relief centres at Kampung Gantok, Kampung Bongsu mosque and SK Mentakab were officially closed yesterday after all the evacuees returned home.

"Currently, only five relief centres are operating namely SK Desa Bakti, SMK Mentakab, SK Bukit Cermin, SMK Bukit Cermin and SMK Seri Semantan Hall.

"All the relief centres have begun to record a drop in victims.

"Flood waters have receded in most areas and people have returned to clean their homes. We expect more flood victims to return home today," he said when contacted.

He reminded those staying in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and prepare in the event of any further flooding especially when there is a sudden change in weather pattern.

Temerloh remains the only district hit by floods in Pahang and relief centres have been opened in stages since Oct 13.
