Ice cream seller crushed to death by uprooted tree near Kuantan waterfall

KUANTAN: An ice cream seller who was returning home after doing business at the Sungai Pandan waterfall near Felda Panching here, was crushed to death by a falling tree today.

The trader, identified as Cambodian national Sen Sauat, 29, died on the spot in the 5.30pm incident.

Kuantan police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, said the Jaya Gading police station was alerted to the incident at 5.55pm.

"Police were informed that there was an uprooted tree on the road towards the Panching waterfall.

"The tree had crushed a foreigner who was riding a motorcycle. The victim was killed on the spot.

"Investigations revealed the man was riding his motorcycle towards the main road after selling ice cream at the waterfall.

"Strong wind and heavy rain might have caused the tree to fall on the victim," he said in a statement today.

Wan Mohd Zahari said the victim's remains have been taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for a post-mortem examination.
