Police hunt suspect in viral ice cream shop stabbing

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing a 21-year-old woman at an ice cream shop in Shah Alam.

Shah Alam Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said a report on the incident was lodged by the victim's brother, a 36-year-old e-hailing driver at 11.40am yesterday.

He added that, based on the initial investigation, the incident occurred at 11.30am yesterday while the victim was working alone in the shop.

"The suspect, a man of unknown race was wearing a face mask and attempted to rob the victim with a penknife, but was stopped by her.

"The victim also sustained injuries after being stabbed by the suspect and was treated at Shah Alam Hospital.

"A review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has successfully revealed the suspect's face and the police are actively working to trace and apprehend him," he said in a statement today.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, along with a fine or whipping upon conviction, he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Iqbal said the victim was discharged from the hospital at 1am today (Aug 13) and no losses have been reported by either the victim or the company.

Previously, a video of the woman being stabbed by a man at an ice cream shop in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, circulated on social media platforms.
