ALOR STAR: More people have been evacuated from their homes as floods persist in the Bandar Baharu district.
The Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of flood evacuees has increased to 109 people from 30 households as of this morning, compared to 80 people from 21 families yesterday.
District Civil Defence Force officer Lieutenant (PA) Abdul Rahim Khairudin said the flooding was caused by the high tide phenomenon, which has affected the area for the past three days.
Khairudin added that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation on the ground.
"Two pumps from the Drainage and Irrigation Department have been working efficiently to drain excess water in Kampung Besar, and water levels have since receded," he said in a statement today (Oct 20).
No flooding was reported in other parts of the state despite the high tide phenomenon, as heavy rains have eased over the past several days.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department's (DID) Public Infobanjir website shows no rivers in the state have breached danger levels.
