Singaporean man deported with 192 others after completing prison sentences

PONTIAN: A man from Singapore was among 193 detainees of various nationalities who were deported to their home countries in a repatriation operation conducted by the Pekan Nenas Immigration Depot yesterday (Oct 19).

In addition to the Singaporean, the repatriated detainees included 115 individuals from Myanmar, 28 from India, 26 from Indonesia, and 16 from Nepal."

The Singaporean detainee was handed over to the republic's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority at Woodlands.

The remaining detainees were transferred via multiple transportation hubs, including Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the Muar ferry terminal, and the Sultan Iskandar Building, before they made their way back to their home countries.

"Temporary travel documents were issued by the detainees' respective embassies to facilitate their return," read a post on the department's Facebook page.

The repatriation expenses for the detainees were borne by themselves, as they had completed their prison sentences prior to being deported.

All detainees were blacklisted in the immigration system and are prohibited from re-entering Malaysia for a specified period."
