Cops search for motorcyclist who crashed while performing 'wheelie'

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police are searching for the rider of a motorcycle who performed a 'wheelie' while carrying a female passenger in front of a petrol station in Teluk Ketapang, Kuala Nerus, on Saturday (Oct 19).

The incident occurred at 6.37pm. The rider and passenger fell after performing the stunt and collided with the front of a car from the opposite direction.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said they received a report from the car driver.

He explained that the incident is believed to have happened while the 23-year-old female driver was travelling from Dataran Austin towards Teluk Ketapang.

The motorcycle, ridden by a man with a female passenger, approached from Jalan Kem Askar towards Teluk Ketapang.

"As they arrived at the scene, the motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction performed a 'wheelie' and fell, crashing into the car driven by the woman.

"However, the rider and passenger fled the scene after the incident, while the car driver filed a police report for further action.

"We are currently tracking down the rider and passenger involved in the accident, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said when contacted.
