Victim of Kuala Perlis boat fire dies

KANGAR: One of the two victims of last Thursday's fishing boat fire at the Kampung Tanah Baru jetty in Kuala Perlis, died today (Oct 21).

Nur Azman Abu, 45, who sustained severe burns on nearly 88 per cent of his body, died of his injuries at 8am at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah here in Kangar.

Kangar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said Nur Azman had been under sedation since Friday.

"The cause of death was severe burns that covered most of his body.

"The other victim is still receiving treatment at the hospital," he said in a statement today (Oct 21).

Last Thursday, Nur Azman and his friend, Mohamad Bakri Idham, 54, were preparing to go out to sea their when boat caught fire at the Kampung Tanah Baru jetty at 11.55pm.

Nur Azman had opened the battery compartment cover when an explosion set off a the fire that engulfed the boat.

The flames severely injured both men, and they were rushed to hospital for treatment.
