TUMPAT: A 85-year-old woman was burnt to death in a fire at her home in Kampung Bukit near Wakaf Bharu here last night.
The victim was identified as Halimah Awang.
She was staying alone in the wooden house when the fire broke out about 7.30pm.
Wakaf Bharu Fire and Rescue station chief Nazah Nafi said 19 firemen rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 8.04pm.
He said the house was about 70 per cent destroyed when firemen arrived at the scene.
"Firemen took about 30 minutes to put out the fire. The woman's remains were found in the bathroom," he said in a statement.
He said the body was later handed over to the police before being sent to Tumpat hospital.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
